Embedded Intervention
2012-2013
Tuesday thru Friday: 10:41 – 11:09

Overarching goals of implementation - ADVANCE LEARNING FOR ALL STUDENTS

  1. Narrow the band of students teachers have to deal with in their rooms during intervention time. In other words provide teachers an opportunity to work with students they choose for specific learning outcomes.
  2. Fundamental understanding that teacher has ultimate authority on who stays and who goes. Must understand difference between “strategic” and “intensive” intervention
  3. Provide multiple levels of support at various locations for students – Homework, enrichment, technology
  4. Determine school-wide process and criteria for identifying “intensive” needs students

Teacher filters for identifying students to keep during intervention:

  • PLT based criteria
  • Essential Standards driven intervention
  • Timely need to address
  • Addressing a specific academic goal

Potential Types of students to address during this time:

  • Attendance issue
  • Missing work issue
  • Make-up test issue
  • Refusing to work issue
  • Behavioral

Intervention Options beyond staying with teacher:

  • TestCenter (classroom): Place for students to make-up tests and quizzes – teacher will inform students who need to go to test center
  • SOS (classroom): Counselors meet with students who are getting 3 or more d/f in classes. Students are in program for 9 week grading period – minimum
  • SHOW Center (classroom): Students who are Habitually Objecting to Work in a class are sent to this room. Close monitoring of progress and productivity during this time. Students are recommended by teachers and reviewed by administration. Students may exit at 4.5 week progress reports if they are doing well.
  • Tech Center: Library computers for students needing research or production outcomes
  • Cafeteria: Study hall for most students
  • Career Center: Hosting guest speakers from external agencies
  • Theater: Sign-up basis for large group – curricular based presentations (Health – non smoking for example)

Locations/Room Usage – Posted in classrooms throughout campus so students know where to go at this time.
